Driving towards Innovation: Rebuilding the World for Tomorrow

As the Modern Era arises, a lot of innovations are formed to make our lives better, more convenient and more productive. Through creative inventions of the great inventors, we started to turn the wheels toward discovering things and getting through heaps and humps along the way. People nowadays wanted to spend their time in travelling around the world and most of us dream to explore the world as much as possible. Fortunately, in 4000 BC to 3000 BC, human beings learned to use animals for transportation.

Until, John Loudon McAdam developed the first modern highway during the Industrial Revolution. The different modes of transportation were invented. Those inventions served as key for improving life styles and a way to travel from one place to another. In late centuries, before the highway and other form of transportation were invented, humans travelled by foot. Imagine the dilemma of walking from New York City to Los Angeles. Well, it's not easy to walk with such distance. The invention of transportation is a big help for us in exploring things around us. It helps us in our daily lives such as in work, study, home, and places we wanted to visit. Even though, these tools have differ in forms, colors, sizes, or class, these are all important in our lives. In 18th to 19th century, many types of transportation systems such as boats, trains, airplanes, and automobiles were produced. Some companies and great inventors produced several types of automobile. They introduced different styles such as two doors, small, large, sporty, and luxury cars. As for aircrafts, the Wright Brothers were able to develop the first aircraft in 19th century. Through those early inventions, we still have the opportunity to discover things and improve the inventions toward modernization.

Filipinos are also fond of innovating things that will make lives better. Some of Filipinos' great inventions are salt lamp, body-heat powdered flashlights, and air cleaning devices. In terms of transportation, jeepney is the most common form of land transportation in the country. The Filipinos were able to innovate and convert it into a modern type which is called "E-jeepney". It runs on pure electricity supplied by a rechargeable automotive battery, thus in its operation fuel is no longer needed. Moreover, Filipinos have been the reflection of creativity whereas a filipino named Atoy Llave innovated a kind of land vehicle which is the tricycle. We also have the "Salamander Amphibious" which is a form of water transportation. Also, the most recent Filipino invention was an aircraft called "Light Sport Aircraft".
Nonetheless, we have the same kind of transportation with other countries such as planes, helicopters, bus, trains and so on.

As the years pass by, the world become more open for technology and more vehicles were produced. In fact, we’ve enjoyed the benefits of transportation in today's generation. But, every coin has two sides. Transport modes emit smoke that increases the risk of pollution. It causes bad effects to our health and ecosystem. On the contrary, we can invent an eco-friendly vehicle that do not produce harmful emissions. We could use other materials that are not dangerous to our world. Our inventions and innovations must also be contemporaneously high-tech with the world's development. Finally, as the youth of this generation, let us save and rebuild the world for a better future.

Throughout time, nail art became a part of fashion and beauty while in history it was a part of aristocracy and determined social status. Many salons, parlor, cosmetics clinics, and other offered that kind of service because it is in demand nowadays. In 2012, the United States witnessed a surging popularity of nail art. A documentary NAILgasm, was released to explore the growing trend of nail art from subculture to high fashion. Nail polish was used in the ancient world. In China it started off being made from a combination of beeswax, egg whites, gelatin, vegetable dyes, and gum arabic and rose petals. The Chinese would dip their hands in this mixture until their finger nails turned red or pink. In Acient Egypt henna was used. The henna stained their fingernails orange, which turned dark red or brown after the stain matured. In 1300 BC, the colour of the nail polish reflected social rank. The colours gold and silver were favoured; later, black and red were the favoured colours. Red is the colour Cleopatra wore.

By the turn of the 9th century, nails were tinted with scented red oils, and polished or buffed with a chamois cloth, rather than simply polished. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, people pursued a polished rather than painted look by massaging tinted powders and creams into their nails, then buffing them shiny. After the creation of automobile paint, Cutex produced the first modern nail polish in 1917. Synthetic nail polish was introduced in the 1920s in Paris.

The word manicure comes from a combination of the Latin words “manus” hand and “cura”  care. The art of manicure has an ancient history. Today, manicure means a system for hand care, which includes skin and nail care, medical treatments and procedures, painting techniques and even fake nail application.

Creating the world of Cosplay Fashion
                                                                by: Rona Guevara

Cosplay is short for “costume play”. Cosplay involves wearing a costume that is exactly like that of a character from manga, anime, or video games, making your hair and make-up as the character’s appearance as possible. Cosplayer is the term used for those people who love and portray the character. It is the responsibility of cosplayers in creating their own hair stles, make-ups, costumes and the props in portraying a character. Cosplay is growing in popularity especially among young people all over the world. Because, teenagers are more exposed in todays generation where anime characters are more popular and more important for them than the characters in books where there are many lessons and discoveries are found.
Alodia Gosiengfiao
Cosplay fashion may be considered a blurring of the distinction between fiction and reality. It is believed that it was originated in the SF and comic conventions that take place in America and Europe. But, in todays generation cosplay is more popular in Japan than other countries simply because daily life in Japan was filled with manga, anime, video games and other works upon which cosplay can be based. Also, they have a comic market in their country where most of the young people are devoted of that kind of life.
Lenie Nierves Aycardo

The cosplay fever is growing in popularity here in the Philippines where the cosplayer joined in cosplay conventions or even the student who joined the cosplay event in their schools. Alodia Gosiengfiao is the most popular Cosplayer in the Philippines. She’s also known as the Cosplay Queen of the Philippines. She likes to do Anime Cosplay, play console and PC games, play with synthesizers and many many more. In Antipolo National High School, the cosplay convention in portraying movie characters, anime characters and characters from greek mythology was held in that school every year as a part of high school day’s life. That event was part of English organization that was organized by English teachers and head of the department.
Meet Lenie Nierves Aycardo, a member of ANHS dance troupe, who portrayed the character of Leukothea, the godess of water in greek mythology. During first year high school, she started to join in cosplay events and to portray a different characters. She and her friends create her costume by recycled materials such as card boards, paint, floral wire, fabrics sequins, woods and other materials thatare useful for creating her costume. She was the title holder for “cosplayer of the year 2013” and she received a certificate during the recognition day.
Kathleen Mae Balaoro

Meet Kathleen Mae Balaoro, also a member of ANHS dance troupe, who portrayed the character of Princess Jasmine of Alladin. She won in the qualifying round but lose in the final round. She looks adorable with her sexy costumeand her classmates became her no.1 supporter.

Rona Guevara also joined the cosplay event in Antipolo National High School in the year 2012 during her third year high school. She portrayed the character of Barbie and even she is a shy type person, she have done her best to show what she have.

Rona Guevara
You can see cosplayers wearing realistic costumes and wigs and posing in front of cameras performing as the characters they are dressed up and cooperating with other cosplayers to faithfully re-create scenes from the fictitious works that feature their characters. They say that there are many different ways to enjoy cosplay like:
             1. You enjoy the way you create costumes
       2. You enhance your creative skills in arts
               3.     You will meet other cosplayers and other

But, the key point is to get as close as possible to truly becoming the character that you are dress up. Cosplay fashion is a way of expressing arts through creativity and through cosplay you will enhance your language and diction. Because, when you are a cosplayer you are not only wearing creative costumes but you will introduce yourself by a creative speech, correct diction and language as the character you portray. Cosplay is a performance art in which participants called cosplayer wear costumes and fashion accessories to represent a specific character or idea. Cosplay costumes vary greatly and can range from simple themed clothing to highly detailed costumes. It is generally considered different from halloween  costume wear, as the intention is to replicate a specific character, rather than to reflect the culture and symbolism of a holiday event.

Welcome to the world of cosplay fashion!

Teenagers nowadays always hold their phones, cameras, tablets or other gadgets that might be used in what they called “SELFIE-CTURE”. Just one click and ready to upload. That is the common thing in life of most of the teenager nowadays. They used it as a way of expressing their fabulous life style. Meet Juan Miguel Jabongga Guevara, a 16 years old student and dancer, who is one of the selfie lords in the Philippines. He expressed his fashion through taking photos of himself. He take a photos with his new clothes, shoes and everything in him that he thinks beautiful and amazing to share to everyone via social media. According to him, every human that exist in this world have their own fashion, styles, guts, life style and other things that can avoid from being bored. It only depends on your chosen way of living. But, what are the reasons why people in today’s generation love that kind of life style? According to a survey, people nowadays love that kind of life style simply because:
1. They want to express their fashion through taking photos of themselves.
2. They can express their feelings or different emotions through photos.
3. They want to keep out from being bored.
Selfie of Juan Miguel
There are lots of gadgets that are introduced all over the world, it is because we are now in modern world where we can find the different kinds of technology. The latest and trending today is the crazy pad comes after the monopod. It is applicable for group picture with your friends, barkada, classmates, beshes, family and other people that you want to be with. Also, there are new cellular phones that are available in malls or cellphone shops that are offered in a cheap price but with quality and with more applications. There are also places that are considered in almost perfect selfie such as tourist spots like Boracay, Palawan, and all beautiful places here in the Philippines even just on the plant box with beautiful flowers as a background of people who love the “SELFIE-CTURE” mode and even in the comfort room with mirrors. Sometimes, they stay inside the comfort room not for emergency use but to take photos. Well, that is the reality.
It is true that most Filipinos love photographs. They capture the looks of the foods that they eat, their cute pets, their new apparel, almost all angles of the way they live their lives. They love it because they want to capture every moment in their lives. Other people felt irritated when they see a hundreds of pictures in their newsfeed with the same faces, you know what it means and admit it that you are one of them. But, what makes them felt irritated when taking pictures are ways of expressing yourself and your fashion? As Juan Miguel Jabongga Guevara says “Do what you want, it does not matter if they appreciate it or not the important is you express yourself through fashion of your chosen life style. You do not need to expect from others instead expect the love and respect from yourself that no one can change because that’s you.”
Hot looks is what he got.
Technologies are helpful in our everyday lives especially for students but the most important thing to remember is to know your limitations from being free. There are many lives that changed in just one click of the camera. There are some that are already a photographer, model, and artist because they practiced the way of life through photographs. The “The Selfie Song” of Davey Langit also hits in year 2014 because of the content of the song that is really true and maybe it is dedicated to those people who love the “SELFIE-CTURE”. The song stated that:
“di mo kailanganng approval ng iba upang malaman mong ika’y maganda ang mahalaga ay komportable ka sa kung anong meron ka.”

That is the most remarkable line in his song that refers to the freedom of the listener. Why? Because, Every mankind has the rights in expressing themselves. Fashion depends on people who appreciate the unique style and their way of living. Click here! Click there! Let us do the SELFIE-CTURE.
